Troy Smith

Instructor, Coach and Keynote Speaker

Troy Smith is a Negotiation Instructor and Coach at The Black Swan Group who joined the team in July 2020. Troy is a retired San Antonio Police Department officer who spent 23 years with the department, including 22 years in specialized units—such as the SWAT/Crisis Negotiators team and the U.S. Marshals’ Fugitive Task Force. During his career, Troy was involved in more than 300 hostage negotiations, including 270 as a lead negotiator. He never lost any of them.

Jorge Gayle

Instructor, Coach

Jorge Gayle is an Instructor and Coach who joined The Black Swan Group in February 2023. He brings over twenty years of experience in supply chain management, process and software development, Real Estate, and Aircraft Technical Operations. 

Jorge spent two decades working for JetBlue Airways, beginning his career by serving as part of their founding team and transitioning to a number of positions over the years. With the help of the Black Swan negotiation methods, Jorge and his team successfully saved millions of dollars across the organization and built better long-term relationships with their business partners.

How is the course administered?

This course is conducted live online using Zoom. You'll receive the link to access the course a week before it starts. We’ll also send reminders the day before and the day of your session. 

How will the class be structured?

This 90-minute course is designed for you to learn and digest the content. This is done through lecture time and the use of video and group discussion, followed by a brief Q&A with the coaches.

What are the technology requirements?

For the best experience, the live online sessions should be accessed via a computer/laptop. Please make sure your web browser is up to date. 

We ask that you would enable your microphone and camera in order to participate to the fullest extent. Bring a notebook as well to record questions and take notes. 

What happens if I miss the class?

The session is recorded and the recording will be sent to you. Refunds will not be issued for missed classes.  Please plan accordingly and make sure you have the time on your calendar. 

How long do I have to access the recording?

All recordings are viewable for 21-days after the class has ended. They are not downloadable. Recordings are sent within 24 hours after the class.
